    The Niagara Health Foundation is grateful to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation for its generous gift of $7,198 in support of Niagara Health’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Founded in memory of Olympic curling champion Sandra Schmirler, the Foundation has spent more than two decades supporting premature and critically ill babies across Canada by funding life saving equipment and family-centred initiatives in neonatal intensive care units.

Roman's family instilled in him how important hospitals are to our local community, and through time, experience and understanding Roman began to realize that hospitals are the foundation of our communities. After his own experience with Niagara Health they decided to join our wonderful community of donors in hopes to make a difference in our local healthcare.

    When Niagara resident Laurene saw the amazing care her grandson received at Niagara Health, she took the time to reach out and submit a compliment. Laurene says that soon after being triaged, her grandchildren would be brought directly to the Children’s Health Unit. It’s a clinical pathway Niagara Health introduced recently to better support pediatric patients with lower acuity. While Laurene hopes her grandsons don’t have to return to the ED, she is grateful for the change Niagara Health has brought to her family and families across the region.
