    When Niagara resident Laurene saw the amazing care her grandson received at Niagara Health, she took the time to reach out and submit a compliment. Laurene says that soon after being triaged, her grandchildren would be brought directly to the Children’s Health Unit. It’s a clinical pathway Niagara Health introduced recently to better support pediatric patients with lower acuity. While Laurene hopes her grandsons don’t have to return to the ED, she is grateful for the change Niagara Health has brought to her family and families across the region.

    More than 900 kids from across Niagara participated in this year’s event on Saturday, June 6th at a new location, Firemen’s Park in Niagara Falls. Kids aged 4-12 completed a 1.3km obstacle course filled with slime, mud, jumps, crawls and challenges while raising funds to support the health care needs of children in our community.

    Niagara Health Foundation donor Bob Czerlau clearly remembers what first inspired him to give back to his local hospital. It was while he was sitting with his brother, who had just suffered a stroke. It gave Bob a deep appreciation for our healthcare system – a system he himself would have to rely on several years later.

    Over 600 newborn babies are cared for in Niagara Health’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) each year, and one of those tiny patients was Daniel. Amidst medical terms, tubes, and fears, Leanne found comfort in the support she received from the nurses.

    The Oncology department at Niagara Health cares for hundreds of patients every year and was grateful to receive five new sleeper beds, thanks to the amazing generosity of Rankin Cancer Run participants. These fold-out sleepers, which can serve as a chair or a bed, provide a small source of comfort for family members during an unfathomable time.

    Thanks to the generosity of Niagara Health Foundation donors, we are excited to share that a new Ultrasound Machine has been purchased for Niagara Health’s Emergency Department. Niagara Health Foundation raised over $60,000 dollars to purchase this piece of equipment. It helps provide clear and reliable images during life-saving procedures and in central line insertions.

    The Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Niagara Health performs over 1000 joint replacements and fracture repairs each year. To meet the ever-growing need for these procedures, Niagara Health Foundation donors have raised $180,000 to purchase a brand-new orthopaedic surgery table.
