Niagara’s Big Move Cancer Ride raises $465,000 for the Walker Family Cancer Centre

Niagara Health Foundation’s annual Big Move Cancer Ride raised $465,000 for the Walker Family Cancer Centre. Held on September 13th, 2026, at White Meadows Farms, the event welcomed more than 500 riders who participated in the 75 km, 50 km, 25 km or 14 km Fun Ride through Pelham. Following the ride, participants gathered for a celebratory lunch and entertainment. The 2026 event marked the 18th annual Big Move Cancer Ride, and momentum continues to build as the community looks ahead to the ride’s 20th anniversary ride in 2028.
For many riders, volunteers and supporters the event is deeply personal. They may be supporting a loved one with cancer or participating as someone who has battled or is currently battling the disease themselves. The Big Move Cancer Ride touches countless lives, and the $465,000 raised is a powerful reflection of the community’s commitment to supporting local cancer care and ensuring patients and families have access to the care they need, close to home. In 2025, the Walker Family Cancer Centre provided care to more than 11,000 patients. Thanks to funds raised through the Big Move Cancer Ride, the Centre continues to have access to up-to-date equipment, helping ensure patients can receive high-quality care and treatment right here in Niagara.
Chris Kavanagh, a patient at the Walker Family Cancer Centre, spoke at this year’s event before riders departed for the ride. “Moments after my arrival at the Walker Family Cancer Centre, for the first time I sensed a calm come over me. This was followed up by the clear confidence and clarity of staff in making me absolutely aware that I was, and continue to be, in good hands. I grew so very thankful for the commitment to patient care with gifted people and state-of-the-art testing availability so close to home. How fortunate am I.,” said Chris.
“The Big Move Cancer Ride this year was an incredible day! We had an amazing turnout of riders who enjoyed a beautiful ride. The event returned at White Meadows Farms and we are so grateful to them for continuing to be a such a wonderful host.
