Lottery in support of the Foundation a Win Win

“Everybody gets sick some time. Even if it’s not you personally, then you have a friend or a relative and want them to have great care!” For Niagara Health Foundation supporter Kim K., giving to your local hospital is a no-brainer. The Niagara Falls resident has had several surgeries over the years and says she couldn’t be more grateful for the staff at the different hospital sites.

“Between my husband and me, we have had surgeries at the Niagara Falls hospital, the Welland hospital and the St. Catharines hospital. The staff has been amazing. When my husband needed a knee replacement recently, everyone told him to go to Hamilton or Toronto, but we didn’t have to! We have great doctors in the Niagara region, and his treatment was excellent.”

Over the past years, Kim has had a hysterectomy, her gall bladder removed, part of her kidney removed, and her appendix removed. One would think she has every reason to be frustrated at needing so much healthcare. Instead, she is incredibly grateful that the help she needed was available and close to home.

“I couldn’t imagine having to be transported to Hamilton every time something happens,” she explains, adding that she was also touched by the care her mom received when she was passing away at the Welland hospital’s Woolcott Wing. “I got to stay with my mom during her final days, and every time I stepped out of her room, someone was there asking me if I needed anything. They looked after my mom, and they looked after me as her caregiver. The staff are just so kind and accommodating.”

Because of this strong connection to Niagara Health, Kim didn’t think twice when she had the opportunity to buy lottery tickets in support of her local hospitals this past fall. “The government only gives healthcare so much,” she says. “So if I can help by buying a lottery ticket, whether I win or lose, why wouldn’t I?! It helps get more medical equipment to our region so that we don’t have to travel so far for an MRI and things like that, so I am incredibly happy to support.”

We are so grateful for Kim, her kind words for our teams at Niagara Health and her investment in local healthcare. We are also thrilled that she was in fact one of the lucky Early Bird winners of the Split The Pot Lottery in November, congratulations Kim!

Split the Pot lottery will return this February. Tickets for the Niagara Health 50/50 Lottery are now available for purchase! The first early bird draw is this Friday, January 5th. Every ticket counts. Not only are you supporting your local healthcare but you never know, you could win some cash as well! Visit www.NiagaraHealthLottery.com or call the foundation office at 905-323-3863 to purchase tickets.
