It’s The Little Things

During Avery's recent stay at the Children's Health Unit at Niagara Health, he managed to stay as positive as possible, and a big part of that was thanks to the amazing care he received. "We had to stay at the hospital for four days following an asthma attack," his mom, Carly, explains, "and we just have to say that the healthcare team was wonderful."

Donations Instead Of Birthday Gifts

It is always so wonderful for our Niagara Health Foundation team when our donors come into a Foundation office to make a donation. A Summer Surgery Success Story: Susan’s Road to Recovery

He supports many causes with his donations, but his local hospital has always been a part of that. He knew he would be involved with local healthcare again in some capacity after moving to Niagara, but he couldn't have predicted quite how soon that day would come.

“I knew I had to donate.”

Earlier this summer, our donor Lynne walked away from the St. Catharines Site Breast Cancer Screening Centre and straight to the Niagara Health Foundation office to make a donation. “I have been getting mammograms for many years, and I am always grateful for the letters that remind me when I am due for one again. The first time something was flagged on a mammogram was around six years ago, then again four years ago, but both times the follow-up ultrasounds confirmed that there was nothing to be concerned about. When I went back for one this past May, however, they saw something that was different.”

They Were Always Good To Me

Mitch calls it the “big C-word” and says that, much like everyone else, he doesn’t really like talking about it. He was diagnosed with cancer in the thick of the pandemic. “I’m not going to lie to you. It’s hard,” Mitch says when he talks about his battle.
