Niagara Health serves over 450,000 Niagara residents and each hospital site (St. Catharines, Welland, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie & Port Colborne) has specific equipment and program needs in a given year.  The Foundation works with Niagara Health leadership to prioritize funding needs each year and then works to fundraise for those priority needs.

Equipment Funding Priorities

Note: Dollar amounts listed are rounded and may vary based on specifications of each item or needs at a hospital site.

Orthopedic Surgery: C-Arm, Osteotome, Fracture Table, Power Tools

($621,000)

The new C-Arm machine, Hana fracture table, and modern orthopedic tools will transform surgical care at Niagara Health. The C-Arm provides real-time, high-resolution X-ray images that help surgeons make smaller incisions and deliver more precise treatments, resulting in less pain and faster recovery for patients. The Hana fracture table allows for accurate positioning during hip, femur, and tibia surgeries, ensuring proper alignment and patient safety. Together, this advanced equipment enables our surgical teams to provide safer procedures and the best possible outcomes for patients undergoing joint replacements and other orthopedic surgeries.

Area of Use: Orthopedic Surgery at the Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines.

C-ARM Vascular

($254,700)

A new C-Arm with vascular imaging will enhance pain management care at Niagara Health by providing real-time X-ray imaging to guide clinicians during nerve blocks, injections, and spinal procedures. Its advanced imaging and contoured tabletop design improve both precision and patient comfort, allowing for smaller incisions and more targeted treatments. This results in less pain, faster recovery, and greater relief for patients receiving minimally invasive procedures in our Pain Clinic.

Area of Use: Pain Clinic at the Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines.

Patient Physiological Monitoring Systems

(589 Units @ $14,500 = $8,486,000)

New physiological monitoring systems at Niagara Health will continuously track patients’ vital signs—such as heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, and temperature—to detect any changes in their condition in real time. These advanced systems allow care teams to respond quickly, provide more personalized care, and improve patient safety. Continuous monitoring also means fewer interruptions and more rest for patients, leading to greater comfort, better recovery, and reduced hospital readmissions.

Area of Use: 589 physiological monitoring systems are needed across our Niagara Health system and will be used in Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne, St. Catharines and Welland.

ECG Machines

(16 Units @ $30,600 = $489,000)

New ECG (electrocardiograph) machines at Niagara Health will provide faster, more accurate diagnosis and monitoring of heart conditions by recording the heart’s electrical activity in real time. With improved precision, remote monitoring, and integration with electronic health records, these modern ECGs enable clinicians to identify issues such as heart attacks or arrhythmias quickly and begin treatment sooner. This technology supports better outcomes, faster care, and greater peace of mind for patients and their families.

Area of Use: 16 ECG machines will be used in emergency care, oncology, cardiology, the ICU and other departments in our St. Catharines, Welland, and Niagara Falls hospitals.
