Niagara Health serves over 450,000 Niagara residents and each hospital site (St. Catharines, Welland, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie & Port Colborne) has specific equipment and program needs in a given year.  The Foundation works with Niagara Health leadership to prioritize funding needs each year and then works to fundraise for those priority needs.

Equipment Funding Priorities

Note: Dollar amounts listed are rounded and may vary based on specifications of each item or needs at a hospital site.

Ultrasounds

(11 Units @ $129,636 = $1,426,000)
Ultrasound equipment is a key item in medical imaging and diagnostics.  Ultrasounds are used across all Niagara Health Sites.  Updated and new units will provide better images which will lead to greater accuracy in diagnosis.

Endoscopy Scopes

(7 Units @ $24,757 = $173,300)
Scopes are used during investigations, treatments and are used to aid in the removal of tumours or other tissue during surgery while reducing risk to the patient. These units will replace units currently at St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.

Affinity Birthing Beds

(3 Units @ $25,500 = $76,500)
Affinity Birthing Beds are designed as adaptive and medically integrated support beds for mom, and baby during the delivery and labour experience.

Digital X-Ray Machine

(3 Units @ $377,000 = $1,131,000)
Digital X-rays are like digital cameras. The sensors are connected to a computer and not a film. This enables the X-ray to capture clearer and more accurate images.

Bladder Scanner

(1 Unit = $16,100)
A Bladder Scanner measures ultrasonic reflections within the patient’s body to differentiate the urinary bladder from the surrounding tissue. It is a non-invasive portable tool for diagnosing and treating urinary and bladder issues.

Portable X-Ray Machine

(1 Units = $193,000)
A portable X-Ray Machine is a lightweight x-ray unit that is mounted on a stand with wheels.  It is able to move to patients that are not able to be transported inside the hospital or that are in stabilized patient beds.
