June 14, 2019

**Niagara’s 2019 Telus Motorcycle Ride for Dad reaches new heights with a record 221 Riders who collectively raised $63 438!**
Niagara Health Foundation was thrilled and grateful to be the recipient of funds from the Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation that will further prostate cancer research conducted at the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
On Tuesday night, the Niagara Chapter of TELUS Ride for Dad Co-Chairs Mathew King and Jeffery Latham – accompanied by a loud entourage – handed over a cheque for $20,000 to Dr. Abhirami (Abhi) Hallock, Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at the Walker Family Cancer Center and architect of the proposed research project. These funds were awarded in response to her application for funding of a Clinical-Feasiblity/Pilot Study exploring how harm to healthy tissue and side effects could be minimized for prostate cancer patients who undergo radiation.
Dr. Hallock acknowledged their valued contribution, “I am extremely grateful and give a heartfelt thanks to the Niagara Ride for Dad team for their confidence in our team’s ability and for their participation in promoting work that could have a deep impact in the lives of men diagnosed with prostate cancer.”
Also in attendance was Urologist Dr. Ian Brown, Chief of Surgery at Niagara Health and Ride for Dad committee member. Dr. Brown has been the Physician Lead of Niagara Health’s Prostate Diagnostic Assessment Clinic since it opened in 2014. A long-time supporter, Dr. Brown is proud to be a part of the Ride’s Executive Committee since 2010. “It’s a dedicated group of people and it’s great to know the money they raise stays in Niagara.”
Senior Director of Development Carrie Zeffiro welcomed and thanked the riders on behalf of Niagara Health Foundation. “I’m always amazed by the depth of support we have from people across Niagara . . . including folks on motorcycles!”
