Motorcycle Ride for Dad helps fund important prostate cancer research in Niagara

May 19, 2016

The Niagara Chapter of the Motorcycle Ride for Dad held its kick-off BBQ today at Niagara Regional Police Headquarters in downtown St. Catharines.

Many committee members were in attendance including former and current police officers who, along with local sponsors, supporters and OneFoundation and Niagara Health System representatives, helped celebrate the launch of the 2016 Ride taking place on June 18th.

Funds raised by the Niagara Chapter stay local and support prostate cancer awareness and research right here in Niagara Region.

At today’s event, a donation was presented to OneFoundation and Dr. Theos Tsakiridis, a radiation oncologist at Niagara Health System who is conducting research into trials to improve clinical care for prostate cancer patients.

Dr. Tsakiridis, along with a multi-disciplinary team including urologists, pathologists and scientists, will be investigating the role of cancer metabolism as a tool to develop strategies that could prevent prostate cancer progression. The research team is interested in pursuing a clinical trial through the Prostate Diagnostic Assessment Program at the Walker Family Cancer Centre that will investigate whether well-tolerated medications such as aspirin and metformin can prevent prostate cancer progression.

Thank you to Niagara Motorcycle Ride for Dad organizers and supporters for helping to raise awareness and fund important research for prostate cancer care.
