Illustrating the life of Gordon “Gordo” Kretz

April 21, 2016

Family and friends of Gordon “Gordo” Kretz gathered at the Walker Family Cancer Centre to honour his memory and dedicate a set of framed cartoon strips drawn by local cartoonist Sandra Bell Lundy. The illustrations portray Gordo's story, highlighting his dedication, enthusiasm and “never take no for an answer” approach to recruiting participants in the Rankin Cancer Run. Gordon’s family wanted to share his story with other cancer patients to provide humour and inspire hope. The artwork now hangs in a patient waiting area doing just that.
Gordon was a participant in the Rankin Cancer Run since it began in 2004. The run, which raises funds for local cancer programs and initiatives right here in Niagara, partly supports the Walker Family Cancer Centre at Niagara Health System as well as other NHS sites across the region.  Last year $630,000 was donated supporting cancer care at NHS.
The 2016 run is being held on May 28th in the Port Weller area of St. Catharines. Visit for details.
